Trauma Therapy from hardship to healing Victim Assistance Program understands that some victims need more than crisis intervention and justice system advocacy to help with their road to recovery. Many victims need ongoing trauma therapy (weekly or bi weekly sessions) from a licensed trauma therapist who specializes in trauma, grief and loss, Acute Stress Disorder, PTSD and the cycle of domestic abuse. In an effort to provide holistic services to victims of crime and trauma, Victim Assistance Program employs a full-time licensed social worker with a Masters in Social Work to provide trauma focused therapy to those in need. The goal of the Trauma Therapy Program is to lessen the impact of crime and trauma upon the victim and address the emotional aftermath of their victimization. Victims that are experiencing normal ‘mental health’ reactions as a result of a crime/traumatic incident often develop depression or suicidal/homicidal thoughts due to the lack of appropriate treatment. Therefore, our Trauma Therapy Program addresses these concerns by normalizing one’s emotions, assisting the victim in creating self-initiated goals, and empowering clients to regain the control that was taken from them during the victimization/trauma. Therapy provides a neutral, nonjudgmental and confidential environment.
