Community Victim Advocacy - Working with the COP’s program intervention and advocacy addresses the impact of violent crime upon individuals, neighborhoods and schools.
Police Victim Advocates:
Provide intervention from the scene of crimes and other traumas through the
extent of the impact.
Advocates work with victims of all violent crimes and other traumatic events. The program is the only resource for on-scene assistance in the aftermath of suicides and serious vehicle injuries and deaths
Provision of Group Crisis
Intervention:
Advocates intervene in school crises providing
guidance and group crisis intervention.
Advocates intervene with business employees in the
aftermath of violent crimes.
CAC staff person is a member of the team
which reviews child abuse cases with social workers, nurses, prosecutor and
doctors at Childrens’ Hospital.
VICTIM WITNESS ADVOCACY
Advocates provide assistance from the prosecution process through court
trials.
Advocates are located in the Akron Municipal Prosecutor’s
office, The Barberton Police Department and Summit County Prosecutor’s
Office at Grand Jury level.
Victim Assistance Pioneered the Juvenile
Court victim advocates and currently has advocates working with victims of
violent crimes to prepare Victim Impact Statements.
Advocate assist
victims with Anti-Stalking and Civil Protection Orders in the aftermath of
stalking and domestic violence.
JOINT INTERVENTION AND ADVOCACY
Victim Assistance Program works closely with Battered Women’s Shelter. We
share staff and planning in numerous areas:
One SAFE advocate works
with Battered Women’s Shelter and the prosecutor’s special domestic violence
prosecution project.
One Family Stability case worker is housed
within the Battered Womens Shelter office in a joint project which works
with families on-going needs after victimization.
Three Staff provide
Crisis intervention to Children Who Witness Violence in conjunction with the
Shelter, Childrens’ Hospital, Blick Clinic, Child Guidance and other
agencies.
