National Crime Victims’ Rights Week
The Victim Assistance Program is celebrating 36 years of
providing free and confidential services to victims of crime during
National Crime Victims’ Rights Week observances from
April 13-19, 2008.
A Candlelight Vigil to remember victims of crime will be held at St.
Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 1361 West Market Street in Akron,
on Sunday, April 13 starting at 6 p.m. The vigil is free and open
to the public.
“Our Candlelight Vigil really touches the hearts of our staff and
volunteers as we join with the families who have lost loved ones as a
result of crime,” said Dr. Robert Denton, Executive Director of the
Victim Assistance Program. “This is a time when victims have the
opportunity to put words to many of their thoughts and feelings.
It's a time to stop and think about the immense, deep impact of
violence across the landscape of our lives. These are stories that are
too important to remain silent.”
The local National Crime Victims’ Rights Week luncheon will be held on
Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 11:45 a.m. at the Greek Community Center
located at 129 South Union Street in Akron. The speaker will be
Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann. The cost is $15.50 per person
and tickets are available by contacting Victim Assistance at (330)
376-0040.
The Victim Assistance Program is a non-profit organization providing
